Restoration of mangroves in Bombetoka Bay

Millions mangroves tree “avincenia marina” have been planted in the bay of Bombetoka. The planting success rate is 90%, the local population is in joy because they start to feel the benefits of the restauration and preservation of the mangrove, marine ressources such as crabs are coming back. The collection of wild silkworms on this species of mangrove trees and the processing of this resulting material also provides part of the income for the community. The project is funded by the fondation Tany Meva in partnership with l’Association Femme Entrepreneur Environnement of Mahajanga as part of the CEPF project.
