History and evolution

When it was created in 1996, the foundation recognized as a public utility was called Fondation Malgache en Environnement Tany Meva. The foundation is governed by the law on foundations in Madagascar (law 95-028 repealed and replaced by law 2004-014).

Ecosystem approach...

Tany Meva begins its interventions at conservation sites, which are very rich in biodiversity and endemicity: Seven Lakes Forests, Ankazomivady Forests, Radama Sahamalaza Island, Amber Mountain National Park, Ranomafana National Park, Andasibe Mantadia National Park, Andohahela National Park. . . With a vision of integrating local communities for better sustainable management, protection and/or conservation, but also the development of natural resources. The bottom line was: sustainable eco management of natural resources for community development".

Niches of excellence

Rapid evolution of the Foundation's contributions towards greater visibility for the preservation of the environment and communities, through precise thematic choices:

• community reforestation,
• the urban beautification"Tanàna Meva", and
• bushfire control.

Priority is given to social and economic development actions that benefit the environment and improve the living conditions of communities.

Thematic programme approach....

Since 2004, contribution to the achievement of the objectives of the three (3) United Nations Conventions (Biological Diversity, Climate Change and Combating Desertification), as well as the Millennium Development Goals.

Five (5) thematic programmes have been launched:

Reforestation program "ALA MEVA"
Ecological Energy Program " ANGOVO MEVA ".
Sustainable Management of Natural Resources Program "GDRN".
Applied Environmental Education Program "EDENA".
Environmental Innovation Award " TOSIKA MEVA ".

2009 was a transition year to the next Strategic Plan.

Towards sustainable community development. . .

Fondation Tany Meva launches its Strategic Plan 3 (2010-2014) with a new slogan:"Madagasikara, tany meva !" or ";Madagascar, land of wonders!" through communities that are aware, capable and committed to protecting and sustainably managing their environment.
